Its all over for '07

The fat lady has sung, signifying it is all over for this year: the last berries were picked on Saturday, August 18th. Miserable season. In June, while taking stock of the berries growing on the bushes as we mowed the grass, we had higher hopes than last year, but our hopes became increasingly dashed as the drought conditions persisted. Many unripe berries have dried up and fallen off the bushes.

We will be looking into irrigation, taking advantage of the irrigation ponds that were dug years ago when our farm was a strawberry farm. The design and planning will be a good winter project for the head engineer at the house, and setting up will be a good spring project for his minions.

Hi. I'm sorry to hear the season wasn't the best. Do you know if berry picking is still going on anywhere in the U.P.?? We were thinking of going up by Houghton in 2 weeks. Will it be worth the drive? Thanx so much.

I don't know if there are other places where berries are available. If so, they must be irrigating. Sorry.

TY for the info. I noticed you're in Chassell. That was the area we were planning on visiting. I guess we might have to call to see. With the lack of rain this year, I can see why berries didn't do so well this year. :( Better luck next year.
