Picking conditions are still awesome

The picking is still very abundant, so abundant that seagulls have been seeing it and picking their own and, apparently, the chickens here have been eating a lot of blueberries.

We anticipate opening-day-like picking (ice-cream pail in less than an hour) through the weekend.  Weekdays are less crowded.  Early mornings and late evenings are the most pleasant times in terms of temps.  Mornings especially.  If you get here before the sandhill cranes head to the fields (about 7:30 am), you get to listen to their cacophony as they fly over.   Not to mention the normal farm animal sounds.

Hope to see you in the patch...

Woohoo - I can safely say you are the funniest blueberry blogger I know of. Now how did those hens get those blueberries in the shells... must be engineering! Kathy Halvorsen

I came out today (and got to meet your new turkeys!) and picked a big bucket full. And you tell the truth - I was in and out in about an hour.

Lynn says this year seems about like your first year. I've picked at your place off and on for 15 years and I don't remember a year like this - I think you switched out all those blueberry bushes for grapes!

Row after row of bushes full of big, sweet blueberries. You could almost get a bucket out of just one bush, but hard core pickers know that we are always in search of a bush that is a little better... So, potential berry pickers - this is your year! Find a shady spot by the sweetest bush possible and pick your heart out.

And as a bonus, you may get to listen to the neighbor kids play in their pool - something about listening to kids play in the water, such lovely summery sounds!

Congrats on a fantastic blueberry year! Kathy Halvorsen

well said. I would like to add: early mornings and late evenings are great because of the ambiance. If we are here, we love to visit with those who have time.
