Opening Day for 2010 will be this Saturday, July 31st
John, Lynn, Genny, and Mike Gierke moved to a blueberry farm in Klingville, MI, in July 2005. In addition to maintaining the conditions that yield literally tons of blueberries, we also raise small animals for fun, food, and market.
I just did a walk through the patch this morning. Only a handful of bushes are completely ripe, about half are 50% and the other half have not yet started to show signs of ripening. I am going to go out on a limb and forecast that those that are mostly ripe will finish up before this weekend, so we will be anticipating that as our opener for 2010. Keep checking the answering machine or this blog.
We took stock of the blueberry field tonight (Wednesday) and the berries are not as ripe as they should be for opening. We may have to forgo our tradition of Saturday openers and open in the later half of next week. We will provide an update Monday. No picking before Wednesday, July 28th for sure.
